REFLECTION

To do this Outfit of the Day (OOTD) post, I had to find a subject, which was difficult. When I saw Jaden’s outfit, I interviewed her, took a photo of her, and wrote a caption using her best quotes. This piece is important to me because I was able to make her feel special on her birthday by highlighting her outfit on the publication’s Instagram page. Also, since we go to an art school, her quote about using clothes as a way to express herself is something to which many students can relate.

For this teacher spotlight, I interviewed a teacher who went to our school when it had a different name. This post is important to me because my grandmother also went to this same school when it had a different name which I currently attend, so I was interested in researching the school’s past. It was difficult to get photos for this post because I did not have any photos of the school or the teacher when she attended the school. However, I was able to use photos from her yearbook.

REFLECTION

This sports team spotlight required me to attend the swim team’s practice and interview one of the captains. I was intrigued by this post because I play a sport and enjoy reporting on sports. I included this piece because it was my first social media post. However, I wanted a photo of the captain I interviewed as one of the photos, so I would make sure the photographer got one if I could go back and fix the post because the photographer did not get any photos of the captain.

March 4

I like this social media post because it shows the student body a little bit about the life of a student who graduated from our school. Initially, I had some difficulty with this post because I couldn’t find any Dreyfoos alumni to interview, but then I remembered Carsten, who had graduated the year before. To make this post, I had to do an interview over the phone because he’s at college and does not live in Florida. Then, I got some photos from him, wrote the caption, and uploaded it.

This social media post is important to me because I am interested in AI and how this new technology is affecting journalism, considering I am a part of a high school publication. Therefore, I chose this post to show how Chat GPT can easily trick people, which scares me. At first, my assignment was just to post something related to Journalism Next, so I struggled to find an idea. But I eventually came up with this topic where I asked people which headline was generated by AI and which headline was created by a journalist at The New York Times.

I like this post because it was a “Humans of Dreyfoos” post, where I get to find someone to interview to inform the school of a fellow student. I was able to interview Juliet Rojas, who has been heavily involved in the school in many ways, and I liked getting to hear about her thoughts on winning MagicMaker at our school. For this post, I was able to find her during lunch, interview her, take a photo, and then write and upload the post.

REFLECTION

February 7

I chose to include this social media post because it was the first time that I branched out and created a reel for our Instagram page instead of a post with a photo. I liked this post because it showed why my publication’s editors and staffers enjoyed being a part of The Muse. Everyone was very positive and had great things to say about the publication.
