Reflection 1

As the Head Copy Editor of my publication, I am responsible for three copy staffers. To make them the best editors possible, I assign them sections of the AP Stylebook to get comfortable with AP Style, which is very similar to our publication’s style. Additionally, I have my staffers make copy presentations on different grammar rules every task cycle so that they can hone in on specific areas of copy editing, which we then present in our section or to the whole class.

Reflection 2

To be a great editor, I learned about what it takes to be a leader. For instance, I have read and written reflections on emails received from Media Now which go over the qualities of leaders. I also make an effort to talk with my staffers about their days or random topics to connect with them on a personal level. I also have watched Ted Talks about leadership to get inspiration. More importantly, I stay organized by managing my time, and I do the same for my staffers by creating checklists for them and checking in on their progress.
